TCC has established the TCC DAKA Recycling Center, which uses cement rotary kilns and gasifiers to treat waste and garbage; the daily capacity of the center is expected to eventually reach 200 tons. It is the first cement kiln demonstration site in Taiwan that also assists with domestic waste treatment. The TCC DAKA Recycling Center has been planned to combine waste treatment, environmental education, and tourism. The multi-functional, transparent, and open design space allows the public to witness the clean, environmentally-friendly, and odorless waste treatment technology. The goal of this project is to convey the spirit of TCC in the promotion of sustainable development of the industry and the city for the common good, and to find ways for environmental protection and industry to coexist. In addition, TCC has purchased 31 hectares of land next to the Heping Plant to build a sealed silo for the storage of alternative raw materials and fuels. These alternative raw materials and fuels are harmless general waste generated by companies such as TSMC, or waste wood chips from timber factories. In the future, this silo will not only reduce carbon dioxide emissions, but also help the government solve issues related to waste disposal. A solar power system and energy storage system are installed on the roof of the plant to effectively utilize green electricity; 100% of the wastewater from the plant is recycled and used as processing water and for irrigation. TCC’s Chairman Chang shared that one of TCC’s most meaningful initiatives was the establishment of the Dr. Cecilia Koo Botanic Conservation Center (KBCC) in 2007, which was in response to the UK Royal Botanic Gardens report that stated,“21% of global plant species are currently threatened with extinction, and it is estimated that by the end of the 21st century, half of the species may disappear.”In order to ensure the survival of flora species and lay the foundation for plant restoration, KBCC has become an important“Noah’s Ark of the plant world” in Asia. It is a world-class center for tropical plant conservation, and works with academic research institutions around the world. Chairman Chang said,“Everyone on this planet should have the basic philosophy of wanting to help the Earth.”Accordingly, all production processes at TCC are designed with the idea of being“clean, thorough, and returned fully to nature afterward”. Having won numerous awards, TCC is no longer just a cement manufacturing company, but a green environmental engineering company that can boast of its“total focus on handling the complex relationship between human civilization and nature”. 81
