Tzu Chi has not only established schools in Taiwan, but also in Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia.“There was a group of orphans in Northern Thailand, who had become exiles during the Communist civil war and were unable to enter Burma, Thailand, or China as they did not have passports or identification documents. They lived in the mountainous border areas and their suffering was carried down through many generations.”Mr. Wang Tuan-Cheng, with the support of the Master, coordinated the efforts of many parties, and Tzu Chi was able to build the“Chiangmai Tzu Chi School”in Chiang Mai Province, northern Thailand.“After their graduation, several students would receive scholarships to study at Tzu Chi University, and after they finished their studies, they returned to the Thailand- Myanmar border as directors and teachers to help the children there. This is the power of education.” Under the leadership of the Master and past presidents, Tzu Chi University has steadily implemented and developed in all aspects of the United Nation Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In recent years, Tzu Chi University was ranked 12th in the world in SDG3’s“Good Health and Well-Being”and won the Taiwan Sustainable University Performance Award and Sustainability Report Award at the 2021 Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards (TCSA). President Liu stated that,“Tzu Chi has been bridging the boundaries of race and region, as well as disparities in medical and educational resources. With great compassion, Tzu Chi is finding breakthroughs to allow more possibilities for the better development of life, and uniting the power of goodness to create a peaceful society.”This is the realization of Master Cheng Yen’s wish to follow the Buddhist teachings to help people and to free them from suffering, and to help people turn their lives around through education. 70 Hualien Issue
