54 We arrived at the Indigenous People’s Wild Vegetable School on Meilun Mountain in Hualien after a short climb up the front steps, and we could feel the happiness and easygoing demeanor of the cheerful and chatty Principal Dongi Kacaw (Wu Xue-Yue) as soon as she sat down. Dongi told us, over a glass of lemongrass tea, about how she started her research on the wild vegetable culture, starting from“Three Stories about Wild Vegetables”. By talking to tribal elders, her parents, and experienced market vendors, she compiled knowledge on native wild vegetables into a book titled Wild Edible Greens of Taiwan’s Pangcah People, which is not only available in the Chinese language version, but also in Pangcah (Amis) and English.
