After a tour of the farm, Zhu Jin- Lang greeted us and shared with us the history of Shin-Liu Farm in Fata’an. In 1991, he returned to the Fata’an Wetland when the agri-tourism sector in Taiwan was just getting started. One day, he was chatting with the elders in the community, and they said, “If the wawa (youths) don’t come back, our culture can’t be passed on, but there are no jobs for the wawa if they come back.”With this in mind, after returning to his hometown, Zhu Jin-Lang began to persuade the landowners around Fata’an to work together, and the wetland regained its vitality through everyone’s efforts.“If we make the environment more friendly, many native species will come back on their own...”Species such as crested serpent eagles, Reeves’s muntjacs, monkeys, and wild boars all dwell happily here. By having close contact with the land and coexisting with natural habitats, Zhu Jin-Lang has created an ecological park that can bring tourism revenue and also be self-sufficient. 43
