42 The Fata’an Wetland is situated in Guangfu Township, Hualien County, nestled at the foot of Maxi Mountain. It covers an area of more than 100 hectares, and is protected under a conservation and utilization plan. As one of the premier wetland in Taiwan, with perennial flowing springs and an abundance of natural resources, it is considered a unique haven that is home to fish, fireflies, more than 18 species of frogs, nearly 20 species of rare birds, and more than 30 species of dragonflies. Zhu Jin-Lang, the owner of Shin-Liu Farm in Fata’an, said,“Fata’an means‘pigeon peas’ in the Amis language. The richest and most diverse ecosystem can be found here, and the indigenous food culture is second to none.
