 42 The Fata’an Wetland is situated in Guangfu Township, Hualien County, nestled at the foot of Maxi Mountain. It covers an area of more than 100 hectares, and is protected under a conservation and utilization plan. As one of the premier wetland in Taiwan, with perennial flowing springs and an abundance of natural resources, it is considered a unique haven that is home to fish, fireflies, more than 18 species of frogs, nearly 20 species of rare birds, and more than 30 species of dragonflies. Zhu Jin-Lang, the owner of Shin-Liu Farm in Fata’an, said,“Fata’an means‘pigeon peas’ in the Amis language. The richest and most diverse ecosystem can be found here, and the indigenous food culture is second to none. Everyone is welcome to visit all year round to taste the seasonal wild vegetables, experience the traditional‘Palakaw’fishing method, and participate in wild food foraging to learn more about food and farming.” Hualien Issue
